On *Collective* and *Individual*

Many Europeans may wonder how it came about that, despite the well-known lack of character, full-blown ignorance, and moral depravity of candidate Donald J. Trump, a majority of voters believed they were better represented by him than by candidate Kamala Harris.

In order to correctly assess the voting decision, it is necessary to understand the prevailing mentality of the majority of the US population:

Americans are individualists,
their motto is "Every man for himself!"

Therefore, community projects are only co-financed with reluctance, because those who do not directly benefit from these projects do not want to pay for them.

This is how you can understand what the situation in the country looks like
[no claim to completeness!]:

  • Roads with huge potholes and in poor condition, which also applies to highways;
  • Poor or even insufficient local public transport;
  • Landscape, spatial, and urban planning entirely geared towards individual transport - and where
  • Approaches to providing car-independent transport exist, this is ineffective because it only achieves leisure opportunities, not supply activities;
  • Rail transport for the rapid transport of goods - the transport of people is a compulsory exercise, whether for better or for worse. which, however, is then paid for by users as a luxury, even though it falls short of mediocrity by European standards;
  • The lack of universal health insurance and its replacement by *for-profit* insurance schemes whose primary goal is to generate dividends for shareholders;
  • Childcare at exorbitant prices that almost completely skim off the second salary;
  • Elderly care that the majority of the affected age group cannot afford;
  • A pension system that merely ensures that those entitled to it do not die of hunger.
  • Politicians' demands to change these conditions and achieve an improvement in the quality of life through collective action and, above all, payment are discredited with "SOCIALISM!", a battle cry primarily of the wealthy, who create their *own world* in isolated, fenced-in ghettos and act as if the welfare of their fellow citizens is none of their business.

    While in this country [Germany] structures that serve the public and are at a comparably high level are lamented due to the ignorance of the complainers and the eternally dissatisfied, in the USA even the excluded lower class does not even consider that it might be appropriate to ensure the conditions of life (and survival!) by involving everyone, for all.
    With the battle cry SOCIALISM, all attempts to generalize collectivist thinking to improve living conditions for all are nipped in the bud.

      The reason the façade of *American exceptionalism* is still believed is simply due to the lack of knowledge the [US] population has of other countries and living conditions around the world. The *elites* are aware of this, but have a strong interest in keeping it that way, because then their position will not be shaken. The upper middle class – often surprisingly well-informed about the differences between opinion and factual knowledge – strives for the top and therefore believes that general enlightenment only hinders their own aspirations.
    So, ultimately, we are left with a deficient public school system, and those with enough money can funnel their offspring – even those who are unsuitable because they lack intellectual skills – through *élite*(!) institutions and build them up as luminaries.

    See Donald J. Trump, dumb as a stump,
    but with an élite university bachelor's degree!¹

    PS:
    In many places, Europe is the counter-evidence to the US theory that acting for a fictitious national collective by politicians and in the political sphere, i.e., orienting the state toward the common good rather than promoting the unbridled self-interest of citizens, is equivalent to socialism or even communism. It's not hard to imagine that the satisfaction of having social security in case of emergency suits even extreme individualists quite well.
